Short Courses

The European Academy of Legal Theory co-organises and/or participates in the following short courses, taking place annually at various partner institutions in Europe:

  • ICon Seminar Seggau
The annual seminar on International Constitutional Law deals with theoretical perspectives on the growing interest in constitutions and constitutional law in national, international and global contexts. International constitutional law is an emerging discipline. It focuses on fundamental ideas of justice (e.g. human rights), procedural fairness and participation (e.g. de-mocracy), and the rule of law as they relate to institutional practices within and beyond the state. We discuss recent research by constitutional theorists from different jurisdictions who are increasingly engaged in a global discourse. This discourse is visible, for example, in relatively new journals such as International Constitutional Law (OUP) and Global Constitutionalism (CUP). The seminar will follow a reading club style: We will engage with original research texts, which will be pre-read by all participants and then discussed on the basis of short oral presentations by the participants. The seminar texts are all in English and the working lan-guage (presentations and discussions) in the seminar is English. The innovative didactic concept places great emphasis on an informal, interactive, discussion-oriented way of working. For this reason, the seminar days are held at Schloss Seggau in southern Styria (with overnight accommodation). Usually, the doctoral students of the Research Centre and international guests also attend the seminar, which further promotes a lively and creative learning environment. This seminar is conducted by Prof. Matthias Klatt and forms part of the elective modules in our programme.
